Visiting Bangkok For The First Time

Hello..I recently visited Bangkok,Thailand and enjoyed everything it had offered me. So thought of writing about it to give few details and tips for the first time visiters...

Bangkok is quite famous for shopping, thai food and thai message though we didn't try it the later one. :) But unless you know where you are going in the city you will be walking around and around for miles cause many Thai residents are not good in their english and all the sign boards are in Thai language.

If you don't know anything in Thai just use simple English without any grammar or they won't understand and speak clearly. Otherwise they would just answer in their own language which we didn't have any clue of. We did manage quite well without knowing anything in Thai but i must say everyone is very polite and most of them make you feel at home by their generosity and hospitality.

For shopping they have both early morning and night markets which everything can be found at about 100BHTs. We stayed in the Pratunam area which is very famous as a shopping area if you are ready to have a walk at night as well as during early morning. We found good quality shoes and clothes at a cheaper price here. If you are a Buddhist you will be have the opportunity to serve a monk who's going on alms early in the morning through the streets.

You have to note that every shopping mall is closed at 9 Pm and opens at 10 am.But there will be thousands of night markets to go through after that. So if anyone is planning to go shopping at night at any malls you will be disappointed.

Since we stayed in the Pratunam area we were able to go through Platinum Fashion Mall , Pantip Plaza and Siam Paragon and Siam Center.

Platinum Fashion Mall
This is mainly for ladies who have an eye for shoes and clothes. The mall consists of 3 zones which consists of mainly shoes in one and clothes and bags in the other.

Siam Paragon and Siam Center
If you are eyeing for more expensive and quality brands this is the mall you should visit. It has all the brands like MAC, Keihls, Forever21, Sephora, Bath and Body Works for all of you ladies who's eyeing for good quality make up which are not found in other asian countries and has all the shops to buy any kind of electronic items without worrying about spending your money on a false product.

If you get tired of having thai food everyday or street food you can go to Manel Lanka which provides mainly Sri Lankan food but it will satisfy your asian taste buds.

Pantip Plaza
This is one of the biggest shopping mall in the pratunam area for all your electronic needs like laptops, mobile phones, DVDs, hard drives, memory cards etc. But there are many frauds here so be very careful when you invest your money here. It's more suitable to buy small electronic items which won't waste lot of money on you and what i recommend is if you want to invest in a laptop or a mobile phone ask for help from someone who has a better idea on them or go to a more reliable place like Siam Paragon.

As for roaming around in Thailand it's very easy to find your way when you walk because the taxi drivers will take you on longer routes if they came to know that you are foreign to the area and will ask for more fairs. Always take a taxi which has a meter on them or act like you the area well and bargain for everything here.
You will find fresh fruits and fruit drinks all over in Thailand when you walk anywhere which is good and has tropical flavors to try.

Chatuchak Weekend Market
This is a place you must visit if you happen to be in Thailand on a weekend. It has about 8000 stalls and can buy anything in a bargain price. Unfortunately we went there too early so most of the stalls were not opened so we couldn't find much to buy from here. But we did try on the coconut ice cream which was delicious and served on a coconut shell. A must try on your visit.

So this is all for my first visit in Thailand in Pratunam area. I'll update again about the areas i visited like Pattaya. Bye...
